2. Ciudadela Market
This day you have to take it easy, so a perfect place for that is the Mercado Ciudadela which is very close to the Downtown, which is a market of handicrafts from all over the country.
Yes sure, you will see a lot of local and foreign travelers, but this is the best place to get some souvenirs from Mexico, where you can buy more than just a T-shirt that says Mexico or a hat. Here you can find very interesting things to decorate your house like lamps, curtains, sheets, decorations, woven blouses, shoes, tablecloths, plates, cups, etc, plus in some establishments you can pay with credit card and some speak English that can help at least to communicate.
By the way you can try to bargain the price, but remember that in Mexico many locals, we are working on campaigns to not bargain with artisans or people who sell their crafts on the street, that is because it takes them many hours of work to make something by hand, so that we do not appreciate the cost and value of their handicrafts.
3. Teotihuacan (Pyramids near Mexico City)
Definitely for us the best day to explore the pyramids which are located 48 km or 30 miles outside of Mexico City, because during the weekend it is totally full of local and foreign tourists and you can’t really enjoy the place with so many people.
You can go on your own, which is not complicated and of course it is cheaper, but you should have some knowledge of Spanish as many people outside the tourist areas of Mexico City do not speak so much English. You can also take a tour, just one thing, some of the tours can be a bit long because they visit several points, make sure you find a tour that is what you are looking for.
Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, cash (Mexican pesos) and comfortable clothes, as it is very hot and there are no trees or a place to take cover from the sun.
Wherever we go we love to explore a city by bike, because you can visit more areas in a shorter time without getting tired, enjoying the places better than from a car and being able to stop and take as many pictures as you want.
