Mexico City is busy 24/7, however, many places, restaurants, parks, museums and other attractions are closed on Mondays in Mexico City. This is because it is the day off for many people who work during the weekend, so we will give you some recommended options of what to do on a Monday in Mexico City.

Remember that at the end of the article, everything has Google pins so you can identify what is close to your area or what you plan to do during your time in Mexico City.

Downtown Mexico City

1. Downtown (Centro Histórico)

In fact this is a great place to visit, because it always has a lot of life especially during the week, because something you have to know is that in Downtown Mexico City every street has a different purpose, I mean, one street is only for instruments, another only for washing machines, another only for wedding dresses and we can go on, so there are always people from all over the city buying things to find better prices, so yes you will see some travelers, but also many locals.

Here we leave you a list (click on the button) of some places you can visit on Monday in Mexico City, remember that maybe the museums or ruins are closed, but if you are not a museum person, it is a perfect day, because you can admire its architecture which is beautiful and take pictures. So check the link we shared because there is a little dangerous area of the Historic Center and here we have a map connected to Google Maps so you know what area you should avoid.

We also recommend you not to ride a bike in downtown on any day, as there is a lot of traffic, it can be dangerous because of the amount of people and the truth is that downtown Mexico City is much more enjoyable walking among its people.

2. Ciudadela Market

This day you have to take it easy, so a perfect place for that is the Mercado Ciudadela which is very close to the Downtown, which is a market of handicrafts from all over the country.

Yes sure, you will see a lot of local and foreign travelers, but this is the best place to get some souvenirs from Mexico, where you can buy more than just a T-shirt that says Mexico or a hat. Here you can find very interesting things to decorate your house like lamps, curtains, sheets, decorations, woven blouses, shoes, tablecloths, plates, cups, etc, plus in some establishments you can pay with credit card and some speak English that can help at least to communicate.

By the way you can try to bargain the price, but remember that in Mexico many locals, we are working on campaigns to not bargain with artisans or people who sell their crafts on the street, that is because it takes them many hours of work to make something by hand, so that we do not appreciate the cost and value of their handicrafts.

Mexico City Pyramids Things to do on Monday in Mexico City

3. Teotihuacan (Pyramids near Mexico City)

Definitely for us the best day to explore the pyramids which are located 48 km or 30 miles outside of Mexico City, because during the weekend it is totally full of local and foreign tourists and you can’t really enjoy the place with so many people.

You can go on your own, which is not complicated and of course it is cheaper, but you should have some knowledge of Spanish as many people outside the tourist areas of Mexico City do not speak so much English. You can also take a tour, just one thing, some of the tours can be a bit long because they visit several points, make sure you find a tour that is what you are looking for.

Don’t forget to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, cash (Mexican pesos) and comfortable clothes, as it is very hot and there are no trees or a place to take cover from the sun.

Wherever we go we love to explore a city by bike, because you can visit more areas in a shorter time without getting tired, enjoying the places better than from a car and being able to stop and take as many pictures as you want.

That’s why if you are in Mexico City, the best thing to do would be a bike tour but with street food, which will allow you to know the city with someone who knows it and enjoying the street food in Mexico City, which is definitely a must do when you come to this metropolis, because meeting the people who prepare the food, the history behind it, exploring its parks and knowing all the flavors that Mexican cuisine has, will give you a better perspective and a better tasting of Mexico City.

There are some museums open on Mondays, however, we consider this one the coolest, because just by seeing its architecture from the outside, it is something that will surprise you from the beginning, as its shape is very unique.

This is a visit for art lovers, because when you explore the entire museum (it is large, it will take you at least 1 to 3 hours, depending on you) you will realize that it has art from various periods of art history, as well as sculpture, painting and temporary exhibitions which we recommend you check before visiting to see if they are what you are looking for.

Besides, the museum is free and you will be able to see a different part of the city, Polanco. It is a very fancy area of the city and maybe just for you to see a contrast of what Mexico City has to offer.
